PAT Testing Services "Portable Appliance Testing" has become an essential part of business life, examples being in a Hotel,Office,Bed and Breakfast,Garage or Restaurant What type of equipment ? Any electrical item that requires "Plugging in" to the electrical supply.Whether it is 240 volts or 110 volts For example. Kettles Fridge Freezers Beer pump chillers Hair Driers Electric drills Televisions Kitchen mixers Microwaves IT equipment such as computers and their associated power supplies This list is not exhaustive !! What sort of problems do we look for ? for example. Cracked or damaged plugs or equipment Incorrect fuses fitted, or fuses that are not correctly marked The condition, physically and electrically of the insulation and electrical bonding of any equipment and its associated power supplies and or leads. A lot of this you may say is "Common Sense" well maybe, but I am sure it would be no surprise to you that many items slip the net or get forgotton about in the riggors of daily business.
PAT testing is part of the requirements for "Fire Risk" assessments. The Two most common causes of fire in buildings are "Smoking" and "Electrical Faults" So take a look around your premesis and see how many of your electrical goods have 13 amp 240 volt plugs fitted. Or How many of your power tools have the yellow 110 volt plugs fitted Go on take a note pad and write them all down.You might be surprised just how many you find !! |
